Train Farmers Across Eastern Africa to Feed Families and Cool the Planet
Across Eastern Africa, farmers are facing a crisis they didn’t cause:
📉 Depleted soil.
🌦 Unpredictable rains.
🔥 Worsening hunger and climate extremes.
For families that depend on farming, failing harvests aren’t just economic—they’re existential.
At Warm Heart, we’ve seen the power of a simple, low-cost solution: biochar.
We’re working with local partners to train smallholder farmers in Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, DRC, and Tanzania to make and use biochar from their crop waste. This all-natural amendment rebuilds soil fertility, increases food yields, and stores carbon in the ground—making every farmer part of the climate solution.

What’s Biochar?
Biochar is a charcoal-like material made from crop waste in low-oxygen conditions.
It holds nutrients, retains moisture, and lasts for hundreds of years in the soil.
Best of all: farmers can make it themselves using local materials.

Your Impact
With your help, we will:
- Train farmers to make and use biochar using affordable, safe methods
- Improve crop yields and reduce the need for expensive fertilizers
- Create demonstration sites where farmers teach other farmers
- Reduce open burning and sequester carbon to cool the planet

Real Voices from the Field
"I used biochar on my millet plantation, and it has done very, very good. I encourage all of my neighbors to use biochar to increase their crops." Mercy, Kenya
"We applied biochar to our pumpkin field, and we're very happy by the 30% increase in size of our produce. We are now trying to teach farmers around us to use biochar so they can get the same benefits with their crops." Daniel, Malawi
This project does more than teach sustainable farming. It restores dignity, builds resilience, and helps families feed themselves for years to come.
Together, we can scale this across Africa--one farmer at a time.
