YOUNG SWIMMERS PROGRAM
Teaching Children to Swim. Saving Lives. Building Confidence
Every child deserves to feel safe in the water.
In Thailand, water is everywhere—rivers, ponds, irrigation canals, and seasonal flooding.
But for many children and adults, water represents danger.
Not because they should be afraid…
but because they’ve never been taught how to swim.
At Warm Heart, we’re changing that.
Our Young Swimmers Program gives children the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to stay safe—and thrive—in and around water.

The Problem
Water is a part of everyday life in Thailand.
But for many children, it is something to avoid.
For generations, families have taught children to stay away from water to prevent risks like:
While this caution is understandable, it has created a deeper problem:
Many children never learn how to swim.
And when they do encounter water unexpectedly, they often have no ability to survive.
But for many children, it is something to avoid.
For generations, families have taught children to stay away from water to prevent risks like:
- Drowning
- Strong currents
- Hidden hazards
- Dangerous natural conditions
While this caution is understandable, it has created a deeper problem:
Many children never learn how to swim.
And when they do encounter water unexpectedly, they often have no ability to survive.
The Reality in ThailandWater is everywhere—but swimming skills are not.
This problem doesn’t start with children.
Many parents were never taught themselves—so they cannot teach their children.
The cycle continues from one generation to the next.
Why It MattersThe consequences are serious—and often tragic.
This is not rare.
This is not isolated.
This is a national safety issue.
A child who knows how to:
Swimming is not just a sport.
It is a life-saving skill.
Our SolutionThe Warm Heart Young Swimmers Program teaches children:
But just as important as the skills…
We help children overcome fear.
Through patient instruction, encouragement, and repetition, children begin to understand water—and gain control instead of fear.
- Only 28.4% of Thai children over age 6 can swim
- That means more than 70% of children cannot swim at all
- In some studies, up to 80–90% of children lack basic swimming ability
- Only 9.4% of children have survival swimming skills
This problem doesn’t start with children.
- Millions of Thai adults cannot swim
- Estimates suggest over 11 million people in Thailand lack swimming ability
Many parents were never taught themselves—so they cannot teach their children.
The cycle continues from one generation to the next.
Why It MattersThe consequences are serious—and often tragic.
- Drowning is the second leading cause of death for children under 15 in Thailand
- Thousands of children have lost their lives—most of these deaths are preventable
- During school holidays, children account for up to one-third of drowning deaths
This is not rare.
This is not isolated.
This is a national safety issue.
