WasteX Biochar Climate Action Project

For years, Warm Heart has partnered with longan orchard farmers and professional pruning companies in Thailand to stop the open field burning of  agricultural waste that results in hazardous smoke with PM2.5 particles.
Each season, we coordinate with these pruning teams to collect tree branches from the orchards, bringing in a trough system to convert this waste into biochar.

Once produced, this biochar is distributed to local farmers to enhance their soils, improve crop yields, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

While this method has been effective, it has its limitations. Scheduling, transporting, and setting up troughs require significant coordination and labor.

As we work to expand our reach, we need a more scalable, efficient solution.

Enter the WasteX Biochar Machine – a game-changer for Warm Heart and the farmers we support.
This machine will allow us to produce high quality biochar in larger quantities, with far greater efficiency than our current system.

With WasteX, we’ll be able to process larger volumes of crop waste at a single facility, reducing transportation needs and ensuring a consistent supply of premium biochar.

The benefits don’t stop there.

The WasteX machine is not only more efficient but also has room to grow as we expand our biochar program to more farms and regions.

By increasing production capacity and biochar quality, we’re better equipped to support sustainable farming across Thailand.

This innovative approach will empower us to transform agricultural waste management, reduce emissions, and create healthier soils for farmers, longan orchards and beyond.

To make this project a reality, we’re launching the WasteX Biochar Project on GlobalGiving just in time for Giving Tuesday on December 3!

On this day, GlobalGiving will provide bonus funding for all donations, making your contributions go even further in supporting Thai farmers and the environment.
